I sit, not quite alone.
The TV is on.
My husband is watching it.
We are together in a shared space.
But separate.
I do my best to drown out the background noise.
Unwilling to relocate and watching my annoyance instead.
It's a thing.
I had a thought.
And wanted to write it down.
But the annoyance caught my attention instead.
It wasn't wanted, but it's become a habit.
I find that interesting.
Annoyance wasn't my thought.
It wasn't my focus. But now, it is.
In looking at it.
It lessened.
Curiosity took over.
The TV occasionally breaks through.
I listen, and my eyes look up.
People I don't know becoming a peripheral distraction.
How often is my attention grabbed away?
Why does that annoy me?
I enjoy quiet and stillness.
I enjoy sitting with my thoughts and exploring where they can take me.
Another person's noise interferes with that.
My habitual reaction is annoyance.
But now, the noise is still there, and I'm exploring.
The focus changed. That is all.
